KEENE, NH – Keene voters will head to the polls Tuesday, November 7th to cast their ballots in the 2023 Municipal General Election.
Mayor George Hansel announced back in the spring that he would not be seeking a third term as Mayor. With that, he’s released a list of candidates for City Councilor that he’s endorsing.
“For the first time in eight years, I will not be on Keene’s municipal ballot, but there are some great choices who deserve your vote,” Hansel said. “Each of the candidates on my endorsement list has earned my support by showing good character and leadership skills, not because I agree with their positions, ideas, or ideology.”
The majority of the candidates Hansel endorsed are incumbents, with the exception of Ward 4 councilor, where there’s a new name on the ballot.
“These candidates have shown me they are seeking elected office for the right reasons. They’ve proven themselves authentic, trustworthy, and passionate about Keene maintaining our reputation as a great place to live, raise a family, and do business.”
For At-Large Councilor Hansel endorsed Michael Remy, Kate Bosely, and Bettina Chadbourne. In Ward 1 he endorsed Raleigh Ormerod, Bobby Williams in Ward 2, Bryan Lake in Ward 3, newcomer Laura Tobin in Ward 4, and Thomas Powers in Ward 5.
There are eight candidates up for the five at-large seats available. Those Hansel did not endorse include Edward Haas, Ashok Bahl, Terry Clark, Cora Elliot, and incumbent Randy Filiault.
Hansel joined a group of city councilors in penning a letter raising concerns about Clark, citing previous behavioral issues and a conflict of interest as he is currently a Cheshire County Commissioner.
Former District 10 State Senator Jay Kahn will appear on the ballot as a candidate for mayor, against Bradford Hutchinson.
Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 7th from 8 am to 7 pm in the following locations:

400 Marlboro Street (adjacent to Keene Police Department)
Ward 2: Keene Parks & Rec. Dept.
312 Washington Street
Ward 3: Keene Middle School
167 Maple Avenue
Ward 4: Symonds School
79 Park Avenue
Ward 5: Monadnock Covenant Church
90 Base Hill Road
